Teaching PREK at AES 2017
My foundational education values started at an early age, which were carefully modeled by my family and in the various environments I was immersed. I grew up in a deep-rooted artistic household, where observation, time, and homemade gifts were treasured. Moving forward, I have carried that mentality and awareness into my art rooms with intention and careful planning.
My teaching style urges students to find Authentic connections between all aspects of their lives and visual arts. I have worked in a variety of frameworks and curriculums, such as Montessori, the American common core, T.A.B. a choice-based art, and more recently, the ib pyp | Myp.
5 years in Germany:
here, I developed my pedagogy and teaching practice within the IB Program. Taught KG - GR5 learners and collaborated with the two other art divisions. I traveled extensively within Europe with a sketchbook in hand and translated that into my ceramic works.
5 years in India:
where i explored a rich culture of handicrafts, people, colors, amazing landscapes and mouthwatering foods. This was also an expansive time for me as I stretched my mental and physical self by completing my masters degree in Integrated Arts, completing a week-long training to obtain my Wilderness First Responder Certification, and trekking to Everest base camp.
1 Year and 1/2 in Japan:
My most recent post has brought me to Japan. Here, I have been developing my IB curriculum knowledge to include the MYP and exploring a completely new landscape. I am taking an independent Japanese pottery class and enjoying the seasonal changes.
